MEMORY: new international sculpture

37 Rathbone Street, London W1T 1NZ La galleria d’arte RosenfeldPorcini (www.rosenfeldporcini.com) inaugura una mostra di scultura alla quale partecipano diversi italiani: Rosenfeld Porcini are proud to present MEMORY, an exhibition of nine international artists working in sculpture today MEMORY brings together seven European artists and one each from the UK and America: Steve Goddard (UK), Andreas Blank (Germany), Leonardo Drew (US), Nicola Samori (Italy), Roberto Almagno (Italy), Spazio Visivo (Italy), Kaarina Kaikkonen (Finland), Rossana Zaera (Spain), and Mar Arza (Spain). From Roberto Almagnoʼs beautifully-crafted abstract forms made from wood, to the visceral approach of Steve Goddardʼs pieces made of pigment, horsehair and clay, the exhibition showcases the diversity that exists in contemporary sculpture today. Each artist takes a radically different approach to their work, using different materials, aesthetic frameworks and concerns. All deal with “memory” in distinct yet equally powerful ways, and it is the poetic sensibility they share that creates a sense of unity. Rosenfeld porcini gallery Founded in June 2011 by Ian Rosenfeld and Dario Porcini, directors of Italyʼs Galleria Napoli Nobilissima, the rosenfeld porcini gallery occupies a prime location in the heart of the dynamic gallery district of Londonʼs Fitzrovia. With 3,000 square feet of gallery space, rosenfeld porcini has a strong international outlook committed to showing contemporary artists from around the world, and will draw upon the distinct yet complimentary backgrounds and expertise of the...

THE PASSION

FILM at the Italian Cultural Institute Cast: Giuseppe Battiston, Silvio Orlando, Cristiana Capotondi, Corrado Guzzanti, Stefania Sandrelli, Kasia Smutniak, Marco Messeri, Maria Paiato ; country: Italy; year: 2010; film run: 105′ When you’re over fifty, it becomes increasingly difficult to be an up-and-coming director. Gianni Dubois knows this only too well. He hasn’t made a film for years, and now that he has the chance to direct a young TV star he can’t even think up an idea for a story. As if this wasn’t enough, a leak in his apartment in Tuscany has ruined the 16th-century fresco in the chapel next door. To avoid being sued and publicly shamed, Gianni must accept the bizarre proposal of the town major to direct the Good Friday celebrations in exchange for immunity. And so he finds himself spending a week in deepest Tuscany trying to put together a kind of Stations of the Cross, with the apostles, Pontius Pilate, the crucifixion, and a terrible and incredibly vain local actor in the part of Christ. IN ITALIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES Date: Thursday, August 04, 2011 – Saturday, August 06, 2011 Opening times: 6,30pm Venue: Italian Cultural...

The Other Sardinia

An exhibition of photographs by Oliviero Olivieri Oliviero Olivieri is an internationally recognized photographer who studied at Central Art School London and has been exhibiting and publishing for over 20 years. He is a contributor to Condé Nast Traveller UK and has published in major travel and life style magazines. “In the world there are places full of energy, where, due to magnetism, people feel connected with their inner soul, granting them a sense of freedom and completeness both within themselves and in connection with nature” – Oliviero Olivieri The Nuragic civilization (18th century BC to the 2nd century AD) of Sardinia built monuments, called Nuraghi in locations where cosmic forces were in balance, where it was easy to accumulate strength and where the human body felt positively recharged. Sardinia is still a place where people go to escape from their busy lives to relax and regain energy. This exhibiton is intended to give a general feel of the island and to keep the mystery at the same time. The exhibition consists of three parts, the first depicts the Sardinian carnival traditions, the second is dedicated to the Nuraghi and a third part consisting of landscapes that can best be understood if one keeps DH Lawrence’s description of Sardinia in mind: “Sardinia is something else[…]Enchanting spaces and distances to travel, nothing finished, nothing definitive. It is like freedom...

Active Witness

AN EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHY TO CELEBRATE THE EUROPEAN YEAR OF VOLUNTEERING To celebrate the European Year of Volunteering, the exhibition, held at Europe House in Smith Square, brings together 26 works by photographers representing 26 participating countries, whose work either engages directly with the voluntary sector, or with closely related social issues. The photographers participating in the exhibition come from a range of backgrounds, including photojournalism, fine art and documentary practice, and the selected works cover subjects ranging from homelessness, to displaced populations, social care, rehabilitation and disaster relief. While many of the photographs relate directly to issues within the European Union, in other cases photographers from EU nations have travelled to sites around the world to depict critical events and situations. The aim of the exhibition is not only to illustrate circumstances and issues of concern, but also to raise awareness of the importance of active participation and volunteering as a positive response. Curated for EUNIC by Simon Baker (curator of photography and international art, Tate), and Ines de Bordas, with support from the cultural attaches of the 26 participating countries. Oliviero Olivieri is an internationally recognized photographer and has been exhibiting and publishing for over 20 years.
