Presenting the major singers of today and the stars of tomorrow, Rosenblatt Recitals are London’s only world-class concert season of opera and song.
Italian bel-canto revelation Serena Malfi will make her London recital debut as part of Rosenblatt Recitals on 11 May 2011. The mezzo-soprano will perform songs and arias by composers including Righini, Spontini, Mozart, Vaccai, Bellini, Denza, Tosti and Rossini.
Serena Malfi was born in Aversa, Italy, and studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. She debuted as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Zurich during 2009/2010 and took part in concert performances of La Wally and Catarina Cornaro at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In July 2010 she debuted as Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Wildbad Festival in Germany after performing Ferdinando in Pergolesi’s Il Flaminio at the Jesi Pergolesi Festival in June in Italy. Reviews described a “young revelation giving life to the role of the young, sad, rejected lover Ferdinando with irresistible stage and vocal vigour” (Giornale della Musica) and praised her “brilliant virtuosic coloratura” (Eßlinger Zeitung) and the “bravery in [her] voice and sympathy in her gestures and facial expressions” as Cinderella in her “sensational” debut (Vaihinger Kreiszeitung). Future engagements include Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris and Annio in La Clemenza di Tito at the Teatro Real Madrid.
