A powerful double bill of two contrasting modern jazz piano stylists. Italian ECM maestro Stefano Bollani combines melodic meditation with wild, Zappa-esque exuberance. In his first London performance since a sold-out Kings Place residency in 2009, he’ll perform solo plus duet with piano legend Martial Solal – one of Europe’s iconic figures – who returns following an outstanding concert at last year’s Festival. This breathtaking duet promises a profusion of creative ideas. Watch the musical sparks fly.
Long-running lineups are a rarity in jazz, but pianist Marcin Wasilewski’s Polish trio have played together since the 1990s, performing to packed houses in London and across Europe, and appearing as the long-standing rhythm section for Tomasz Stanko. Here performing music from their latest ECM album Faithful, the trio draw on music from Ornette Coleman, Hermeto Pascoal, and Fran Landesman, adding their own spacious sensibility to create music of great depth and beauty.
