Straight out of Italy Vittorio Tolomeo is a songwriting multi-instrumentalist pioneer of funk, soul, and folk. But, besides all of those, Vittorio’s debut solo album ‘Prize Day’ is as pure an expression of the spirit of rock’n’roll.
Vittorio says he wanted to make an album that was more like a record than a CD, one where every note, every lyric and every song is treasured and remembered. That is exactly what he has achieved with ‘Prize Day’ – it is a record that fits together perfectly, not just a collection of songs. As such, Vittorio has given the world a musical gift that is both thoroughly modern and a throwback to a different age.
Perhaps it is Vittorio’s Italian heritage that means this phenomenal record doesn’t confirm to the stereotypes of what rock, soul or folk should be. He combines the best of each with the ear of a true musician.
It is also a deeply personal record, with every note a part of the man’s own journey to the point where he can create something special. Opening track ‘Migrant Soul’ is a perfect expression of what makes Vittorio’s music different – it is a statement of how the artist sees himself as well as a blend of all the influences, both musical and personal, that molded him.
And the record does not dip in quality from there. It is the embodiment of the old-school vision of an album as a tightly knit collection of songs that sit together, irrespective of style of music.
Vittorio’s influences cover everything from Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground and Sly Stone right the way through to Joy Division. He is already signed to Californian based Morada Music imprint in the USA and Canada.
